Background: Ian attended Saffron Walden County High School and came from a military background. Ian always wanted to join the Army and was a member of the Army Cadets. Ian enlisted into the Army at Cambridge following his father and sister and was later followed by his brother who joined the RAF. 

Army career: Ian joined the Army as a Junior Leader in August 1969.

After training at The Infantry Junior Leaders Battalion at Oswestry and The Queens Division Depot at Bassingbourn, he joined The 2nd Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment in Münster in June 1972.

Date of death: 29/09/1972 

Circumstances: Ian was killed during a follow-up operation in Albert Street, Belfast. 

Resting place: Saffron Walden Cemetery
